3 Ways to Protect Your Peace

June 20, 2021

I don’t know about you, but the older I get, the more focused I’ve become on prioritizing my peace. One thing the pandemic has done was allow me to reevaluate the way I’ve been navigating life and things I’ve been doing that weren’t contributing to my own peace. Honestly, at this stage of the game, if it interrupts my peace, it can go. So, what are some ways you can you protect your peace? Here are a few steps you can take:

Limit Your Time Watching News and on Social Media

You are what you eat. That not only goes for the food you eat, but the information you take in. News and social media can be breeding grounds for negative information. While it’s good to be informed, all news ain’t good news (pun intended). Pay attention to how you feel while you’re watching the news and on social media. Set a time limit for how long you stay on these platforms. Unfollow any social media accounts that make you feel some sort of way.

Limit Your Time Around Negative People

Just like it’s important to limit your time around negative information, it’s equally as important to limit your time around negative people, as much as you can. Any time you’re out and about in public, such as at work, you can only do so much. When you find yourself having to engage with negative people, do so as sparingly as possible. If you’ve spent a good part of your day surrounded by negative people, take breaks to recharge and give yourself a good 15-30 minutes of down time, once you get home, to detox from your day.

Just Say No

No one likes to be the bad guy and a lot of times, as women, we’ve been conditioned to feel bad for setting boundaries and saying no. However, how many times have you said yes to something when you knew damn well you wish you had said no? Saying yes to things you know you don’t want to do is a recipe for disaster. Sure, folks may see you as a good person and think well of you, but what does any of that mean if saying yes costs you your peace? In order to protect your peace, learn to say no and mean it, without feeling bad about your decision. You’re not Superwoman, so burn the cape and practice prioritizing your peace for once.
