You want to live your best life, right? We all have a different definition of what our best lives looks like. Regardless of how you define your best life, there are some things you just don’t need, in order to do it. Here are five:
Other People’s Approval and Acceptance
Listen, if you can get this first point, you might be able to stop right here (but don’t, because I really want you to read the rest). As a matter of fact, you will never be able to live your best life until you get this point. You don’t need anyone else’s acceptance or approval in order to live your best life. Acceptance and approval seeking will actually prevent you from living your best life because those people who you’re seeking it from, 9 times out of 10, don’t care about your happiness. Your inclusion in their circle is usually based on you serving their needs, with little to no reciprocity. The sooner you let this go, the better off you’ll be.
Everything Figured Out Right Now
How many times have we heard about creating a 5-year, 10-year, or 20-year plan? If you don’t have a plan, don’t feel bad, because you can plan all you want and still not be living your best life (how many of us saw 2020 in our plan?). You don’t need to have everything figured out right now to live your best life. If a lot of us were being honest, we’ve followed our plan and ended up living the opposite of our best lives. You need to have a vision for your life, but you don’t have to have the plan to get there, all figured out. Take one day at a time on the road to living your best life.
A Lifestyle Worthy of the ‘Gram
Oh the ‘gram. It has its good and bad sides. While it can be informative and a great way to connect with other people, it can also set an unrealistic standard of what living your best life, should look like. Personally, when I’m living my best life, the ‘gram is the last thing on my mind. Living your best life doesn’t require a picture perfect home, trips overseas and a stunning wardrobe.
Trying To Be Like Everyone Else
You will never live your best life trying to be like everyone else. It’s impossible. Why? You’re not even living “your” life – you’re living someone else’s. What brings someone else joy might not work for you. Get to know yourself and what you truly want in order to live your best life.
An Impressive Résumé
Awards and accolades are great, but you know what? You don’t need them to live you best life. You don’t need to be the CEO of ABC Corporation with an ivy league education, a summer home in the Hamptons and on Forbes 40 under 40 list. You could have all of those things and still be miserable.
The real key to living your best life is knowing yourself, knowing what you truly want out of life and going after those things. What are some other things you don’t need to live your best life? Drop it in the comments below.
