Comparison is Killing Your Confidence

One of the biggest downsides of social media is comparison. Social media has given us all a platform to share a snapshot into our lives. But sharing isn’t always caring. Sharing can sometimes become a competition – who has the best life, the best house, the best kids, the best clothes, the best body, the best hair, the best career, the best vacations, the best car, the best business, etc. And if you’re not careful, you can find yourself comparing your whole life to that of a carefully curated presentation, shared by a complete stranger, representing a snapshot in time. And if you’re not really careful, you’ll find yourself feeling less than because your reality isn’t measuring up to what you’re seeing on social media. Instead of comparing, stop and take a step back and see if you’re allowing comparison to kill your confidence.

Somebody Will Always Have Something Better

The truth is, somebody will always have something better than you. And that’s ok. Somebody having better stuff than you doesn’t make you less than. Your worth isn’t based on what you have. Even if you had nothing, you wouldn’t be any less valuable. Your worth is based on who you are, as a person – how kind you are, how loving you are, how much integrity you have, how much compassion you have, etc. The truly valuable things you posses, money can’t buy – they’re priceless.

There’s Only One You and That’s Your Superpower

The reason why comparison is so useless is because we’re all unique individuals, with different lives, different stories, different experiences and different paths. We don’t compare the sun to the stars – they serve different purposes, yet they all shine. There’s only one you and that is your superpower. We were never all meant to be the same, yet we can all shine.

You Can’t Live Your Best Life Focused on Someone Else

Here’s the thing – you can’t run your own race looking at someone else’s lane. It’s ok to be inspired by someone else, but the time you spend focused on someone else really could be better used investing in yourself. If you start to feel some sort of way looking in on someone else’s situation, step back, unplug and go focus on living your best life.
