Sis, are You Sabotaging Yourself?

So often, we’re worried about other folks sabotaging us, when quite often our biggest enemy is staring right back at us, in the mirror. Sure, someone else might be trying to sabotage you, but sis, are you sabotaging yourself?

 

Negative Thoughts  

Studies show that the average person has between 6,000 to 8,000 thoughts per day. Now, if you’re having 6,000 thoughts running around in your mind, daily, and most of those are negative, it’s going to be really hard for you to experience positive outcomes in your life. Negative thoughts are a form of self-sabotage because you’re the only one who can control what it is that you’re thinking. Negative thoughts range from self-doubt to expecting the worse to happen. While it’s impossible to completely stop thinking negative thoughts, it’s possible to notice the negative thoughts and redirect them. Anytime you notice a negative thought pop up in your mind, stop that thought immediately and give it the boot. Don’t even give it a second to set up shop in your mind.

 

Settling For Less

Sis, settling for less is never a set up for success. Let me say that one more time – settling for less is never a set up for success. Anytime I’ve ever found myself settling, whether it was in dating or other life choices, it always blew up in my face and left me feeling silly. Now, here I was, saying to myself, “Well, maybe I’ve been too picky. Let me give this a try and see how it turns out” only for the less than ideal situation to set me on the curb. Settling for less is self-sabotage because you’ll never be happy with the end results since it’s really not what you want. Save yourself the time, energy and effort and refuse to settle for less. Keep doing your part and hold out for what you truly want, no matter how long it takes.

 

Acting Against Your Own Best Interests

Acting against your own best interest is another self-sabotaging activity. While it’s ok to make sacrifices on behalf of others, sacrificing yourself shouldn’t be one of them. What does acting against your own best interest look like? Loaning money to irresponsible people that you can’t afford to give away, putting your good name on the line for folks with shaky character, saying yes to something you know you don’t feel like doing. The list could go on and on, but you get the picture. Anytime you act against your own best interests you’re sabotaging yourself. Sure, other people might be pleased by your actions, but, in the end, are you happy with yourself?
