In an increasingly stressful world, it’s more important than ever to take care of ourselves. Now, when most of us think of self-care, we probably envision massages, facials, manicures and pedicures. While those are all forms of self-care, the dollar signs attached to those services can add up quickly. Fortunately, self-care doesn’t have to be pricey. Here are five ways to self-care for free. I don’t know about you, but free99 sounds good to me.
Laugh
Laughing is a free, and probably my favorite form of self-care. We’ve all heard the saying laughter is good for the soul. One of my favorite times of the year is the holiday season. I love getting together with my family and loved ones, not just for the food, but more so for the fellowship. Whenever we get together we always have a laughing good time. All the laughter sets a positive and joyful environment, which just feels good. Whether it’s watching your favorite comedy or setting up a group chat with your favorite group of friends, find a way to incorporate laughter in your self-care routine.
Read
Reading is another way to self-care for free. Now, I know a lot of you may be thinking, “But books ain’t free Sis.” They’re not, but the library is. There’s nothing more relaxing that grabbing a good book, and escaping for a few hours into a good storyline.
Walk
Walking is another great way to self-care for free. Not only are you clearing your mind and getting out into nature, but you’re also getting a good workout. Personally, I love going outside in nature and walking to clear my mind. Some of my best ideas have popped up while I was walking.
Bathe
There’s nothing quite like taking a nice, long, candle lit soak in a bubble bath, accompanied by a glass of wine and some music playing in the background. Bathing is another way to self-care for free. It’s the ultimate opportunity to set the mood for complete relaxation.
Sleep
Last, but certainly not least, is sleep. It’s another way to self-care for free. If we’re completely honest, most of us aren’t getting enough sleep. So many necessary things happen during our sleep cycle like healing and weight management. While what’s considered “enough sleep” varies from person to person, there’s no denying the positive impact of a good night’s sleep.
