Unless you want a regular, schmegular life, you have to make time to dream. We live in a hectic, fast paced world, so unless you make time, it probably won’t happen. Most of us have so much untapped potential inside of us, simply because we don’t make time to let our imaginations run free. Now, I’m not suggesting you execute on every dream that pops inside your head, but I’m pretty sure you’ve some great ideas, trapped inside your mind, just waiting to be uncovered.
Set Aside Time (Vision Casting)
Most of us have more obligations than we have time. So, unless we make time for what’s important, we’ll never have time to do it. Set aside time, regularly, to just let your imagination run free. Find a time during the day that works best for you, whether that’s first thing in the morning or just before bed. Think of what you’d love to do if money and time weren’t barriers.
Set the Environment
When you make time to dream, it’s important that you set the environment as well. Find a comfortable, quite place where you won’t be interrupted. You want to create an environment where you can relax and think freely.
Make Time to Dream
Write the Vision
Write down everything you think of during your vision casting sessions. Yes, everything. Personally, I keep a pen and paper, as well as my iPhone notes, to take down all my ideas. Not all your ideas will be winners, but that’s not the point. You’d be surprised how many of your ideas come up over and over again, at different times in your life. Those reoccurring dreams/ideas are usually the ones you should pursue.
Create a Plan
Unless you make a plan to execute your dream, that’s all it’ll ever be – a dream. Create a plan on how you can bring your dream to life. Will your dream require you to go back to school? Develop a new set of skills? Seek guidance and counseling from a business coach? Whatever you need to do to bring your dream to reality, create a plan detailing how to make it happen.
Nurture It
Pursuing a dream isn’t easy, especially in the early stages. You’re going to be faced with many obstacles, disappointments and delays along the way. That’s why it’s very important that you nurture your dream. Speak positive words of affirmation over your dream and please keep your vision away from Negative Ned and Nancy. The last thing you need is people casting doubt over your dream, especially in its infancy.
Execute
Your dream and plan don’t mean a thing unless you execute. You can wish and pray and manifest all day, but until you put some action behind your plan, you won’t see any results. You don’t have to do everything at once, but you do have to put forth the effort. Create goals and a timeline so that you’re executing on your dream.
Review Regularly and Adjust as Needed
As you’re pursuing your dream, be sure to review it regularly. Not only will this help you to remain clear on your vision, it’ll also help you remember what’s at stake when you feel like quitting. You’re going to hit valleys along the way, but remaining clear on your why will help you to keep moving forward. While you have a plan, it’s not set in stone, so don’t be afraid to make adjustments as needed. Remain solid on your dream, but flexible in how you go about making it happen.
