About Nzuri Noire
Nzuri means beautiful, in Swahili. Noire means black. Nzuri Noire is a media platform created to serve, inspire, affirm and delight Black women through thoughtfully curated content. Launched in 2021 by founder Jessica R. Simmons, Nzuri Noire was intended to be a safe haven for Black women. Nzuri Noire was also intended to be a space that focuses on and caters to Black women’s needs. “Our issues and needs are so unique they can”t be addressed from a one size fits all approach,” says Simmons. “I didn’t see enough platforms that were seriously addressing our needs so I created one. We’re so much more than just hair and celebrity news.
Take Your Eyes off the Crowd
It’s hard to make moves when you’re too focused on what everyone else is doing, so take your eyes off the crowd. Social media is a great tool when used properly, but it’s also given us a front row seat into so many other people’s lives. You know what they say – two’s...
Affirmations for Difficult Seasons
Pretty, positive affirmations are great, but what about affirmations for difficult seasons? Many times we look for inspiration and affirmations outside of ourselves, but you should be your biggest cheerleader. You speak to yourself more than anyone else. What you say...
Make Time to Dream
Unless you want a regular, schmegular life, you have to make time to dream. We live in a hectic, fast paced world, so unless you make time, it probably won’t happen. Most of us have so much untapped potential inside of us, simply because we don’t make time to...
Go Where You’re Celebrated
Most of us are familiar with the phrase, “Go where you’re celebrated,” but how many of us actually live by it? We weren't created to tolerate life until we die. We’re meant to live and enjoy life to the fullest. In order to do that, we have to surround ourselves with...
Know Your Worth
Do you know your worth? No, I’m not talking about your net worth, what society says you’re worth or what your credit score says you’re worth. I’m talking about your true, intrinsic value. We, especially Black women, have been conditioned by media, family and other...
Don’t Let Disappointment Keep You Stuck
We all experience disappointment, but don’t let disappointment keep you stuck. If you’ve experienced multiple disappointments, it’s all too easy for you to want to give up and throw in the towel. Disappointment has a way of taking the wind out of your sails and making...
The Power of Saying No
Never underestimate the power of saying no. Saying no doesn’t make you selfish, mean or inconsiderate. Saying yes to everything and everyone usually leaves you burned out, overextended and resentful. Realistically, you only have so many hours in a day and with all the...
Stop Doing What Doesn’t Work
We have to stop doing what doesn’t work. Society has conditioned us to believe that we should keep trying harder and harder and if we try hard enough, whatever we’re doing will eventually work. The relationship, the promotion, that business venture, etcetera and if...
Black Owned Handbag Brands We Love
Here are five Black owned handbag brands we love. August is Black Business Month. Personally, I believe in supporting Black owned businesses year around. Not only is it important to keep the dollar circulating in our community, but it’s equally as important to help...
Don’t Let Perfectionism Paralyze You
We all want to be successful, but don’t let perfectionism paralyze you. Perfectionism is defined as the need to be or appear to be perfect. Through mainstream media, society has projected this message that perfection leads to success. Unfortunately, many of us have...
