Sis, You Don’t Have to Settle

You Don’t Have to Settle

Ladies, we’re well into the 2022, but one message I hope y’all get loud and clear is this – Sis, you don’t have to settle. If you found yourself settling in the past, we’re not bringing that into 2022. Whether it’s a job, a relationship or whatever, your days of settling are a thing of the past. When it comes to settling, you’ll be tempted to return to the status quo, but here are a few things to keep in mind:

Stand Your Ground

It takes a lot of courage not to settle. Doing something new takes faith and discipline. It’s all too easy to fall back into that old familiar. When you’re deciding not to settle, you have to stand your ground. You have to believe that, although you don’t know what’s ahead, it has to be better than settling for what you don’t really want.

Don’t Fall for the Okie Doke

Sometimes when you’re trying to jump off the settle bus, those who benefit from you settling will try to tempt you to stay on. They’ll pretend to make changes just to appease you in the short term. Ladies, don’t fall for the okie doke though. Stay focused. If staying in a situation doesn’t serve your best interest, don’t allow any amount of concessions to cause you to stay.

Be Ready to Step

When you’re in a situation that doesn’t serve you, be ready to step. You can’t just talk about it, you have to be about it. Action is the only thing that creates change. Sometimes that change starts with a single step. Now, I’m not suggesting you step blindly. Your steps should be ordered by a plan. One thing’s for sure, if you don’t plan to step, you’ll probably end up settling.

When You Settle You Lose

When it comes to settling, the only person who loses is you. Settling doesn’t serve you. When you’re in a situation that doesn’t serve you, ultimately, you’ll become resentful. You also lose because when you settle you’re wasting time. What could you be doing, that benefits you, if you’d chosen not to settle?

The Best is Yet to Come

For whatever reason, we’ve been conditioned to believe that we don’t deserve the best. Society has conditioned us to believe that there’s only so much of the good stuff to go around and in order for you to have it, you have to be “perfect.” More specifically, you have to possess a certain ideal in order to be worthy of “the best.” If you don’t fit into that ideal, you deserve less. Unfortunately, too many of us have bought into that lie that we have to settle for scraps and leftovers. God didn’t create you to settle for less. Settling only robs you of what you truly deserve. If you currently find that you’re not where you thought you’d be by now and life hasn’t panned out as you’d planned, don’t settle – the best is yet to come. So long as you don’t give up and keep going, better days are ahead. How do I know? I’m speaking from experience. Just in terms of my career, it took me awhile to get where I am today, but my refusal to settle paid off. I’m not special – if it can happen for me, it can happen for you too.
