The importance of good girlfriends can’t be overstated. We don’t get to choose our family, but thank God we get to choose our friends. There are girlfriends, but then there are good girlfriends. Good girlfriends are like fine wine – rare and hard to come by. It’s not just about having good girlfriends, but also being a good girlfriend. Reciprocity is a must. You can’t trust everybody, nor can you be vulnerable or transparent with everyone. Good girlfriends are a trusted source that will allow you to be transparent and vulnerable, without judgment. I’m sure we’ve all made the mistake of trusting the wrong people, thinking we could be vulnerable and transparent with them, only to be hurt and betrayed in the end. Some of us are still baring the scars from trusting the wrong people. Good girlfriends provide a safe space to open up, without being hurt or judged. They understand the importance of keeping your secrets. Even when they might not be able to provide answers, they provide safety and love in your darkest hour. When you’ve found these types of good girlfriends, hold them close; they’re a rare treasure.
Wise Counsel
Raise your hand if you’ve ever been on the verge of doing something dumb until you had a good girlfriend talk you off the ledge (Raises both hands). Good girlfriends provide wise counsel. They tell us when we’re about to make a huge mistake and when we’re on the right track. They even educate us in areas and on topics we’re not familiar with.
Iron Sharpens Iron
Iron sharpens iron and good girlfriends help each other grow. They lift each other up and pour into each other. They also check each other, lovingly, when it’s needed. A good girlfriend will help make you a better woman.
A Support System
Nobody can hold you down and support you like a good girlfriend. We all need support. Whether it’s in relationships, career, or an entrepreneur venture, we all need a good support system. Support is a verb, so a good girlfriend puts action behind her words. Support isn’t just physical, either. Emotional support is another type of support a good girlfriend provides.
Good Company
