In a microwave, instant gratification, “I want it now” society, it’s hard not to be impacted by such an environment. If we’re being truthful, none of us like to wait. We want what we want, yesterday and on-time seems late. Since we don’t like to wait, we’re always looking for short-cuts, work arounds and hacks to get what we want, with little to no effort. While faster seems harmless, that’s not always the case. Many times you end up playing yourself when you seek to take short cuts and cheat the process. Here’s how:
What You Learn In The Process is Necessary for Your Destination
When we first have goals or dreams in mind, we tend to focus on the end destination and not the journey. How many times have you wanted to quit something because it wasn’t happening fast enough? However, when you finally accomplished that goal or dream, you realized you needed everything you learned along the way to prepare you for the end destination? When you cheat the process, you miss necessary, vital lessons that’ll help you thrive once you reach your final destination. There’s nothing worst than getting to the end and realize you’re unprepared. Sticking to the process is hard, but it’s better than showing up unprepared and playing yourself.
It’s About Who You Become in the Process Sis
This might sound cliché, but it’s true – who you become in the process is more important than the destination. I’m not going to lie, there are so many things I’m glad I didn’t get when I wanted them. Had I gotten them, when I wanted them, I would’ve destroyed everything. My character wasn’t what it needed to be. I wasn’t the person I needed to be in order to properly handle what I wanted. The process has a way of turning you into the person you need to be, for your intended destination.
The Process Builds Appreciation
Even though we like short cuts, there’s something about our human nature that just doesn’t appreciate things that come easy. How many times have we read about lottery winners that went broke after winning millions? We’re hardwired to be more appreciative of the things we had to work for. Just thinking back on all the work you put in and the sacrifices you made, to reach a destination, tends to make you more appreciative. While the process might be long and hard, you’ll appreciate the destination more when you arrive.
